ANNOUNCEMENT

We are pleased to announce the 1st All Africa Horticulture Congress to be held in August 2009 in Nairobi, Kenya. The theme of the congress is Horticulture for Quality Life. 

The congress will cover the following broad areas:

• Food security,
• Health,
• Environment,
• Poverty alleviation/wealth creation, and
• International trade in horticulture.

Congress Objectives

The congress is organised with the following objectives:

1. Create a forum for African stakeholders in horticulture and others to exchange ideas, discuss research findings and joint formulation of proposals,
2. Facilitate researcher-consumer-producer interactions for establishing research needs,
3. Promote public-private sector partnerships/linkages in horticulture,
4. Promote capacity of human resources in the horticulture industry through relevant education and training,
5. Provide information on the trends in horticultural trade,
6. Promote consumption of fruits and vegetables within communities in Africa for improved health,
7. Promote horticultural production practices that are safe and environmentally friendly, and
8. Promote the use of horticulture for the well being of every population in Africa.

Format

The congress will be accomplished through oral presentations (plenary and parallel sessions), exhibitions, trainings, seminars, parallel sessions and field visits.

The exhbitions and excursions are provided to facilitate interaction among scientitists and other stakeholders in the horticulture industry. In the exhibitions cutting edge technologies for the horticulture industry will be exhibited. Excursions on the other hand will take congress participants to horticultural producers and scenic sites in the country.
